Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven or Altar of Heaven was the next stop on our tour. This area of Beijing was the religious site where Emperors from the Ming and Qing Dynasties went to pray and conduct ritual sacrifices in order for there to be a good Harvest. Since the number nine represents the Emperor (even numbers represent earth, odd the heavens and nine is the highest), the Circular Round Altar is a series of concentric circles with multiples of nine plates.
