The Bell Tower

We went to the Bell Tower in downtown Xi’an which sits at the center of the area surrounded by the City Wall we visited yesterday. Built in 1384 during the Ming Dynasty, the Bell Tower announced the opening of the gates at the beginning of the day. A corresponding drum tower was used to announce the closing of the gates and the end of the day. Look at the image of the traffic you can see from the tower. It is amazing how many vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians there are.
