Terra Cotta Warriors

After lunch, we headed to see the Terra Cotta Warriors which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is still an active archeological site with ongoing excavations. We met the farmer at lunch who discovered the first Terra Cotta Warrior in 1974 while digging a well.

The Terra Cotta Warriors date back to the Qin Dynasty in 210 BC. The warriors were part of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The purpose of the warriors was to protect the Emperor in the afterlife and to give him people to rule over. There are thousands of soldiers, horses, etc…



You can see in the following images the archeologists still working and the warrior ER where they reassemble the parts to form reconstructed warriors.
